  • As I have started my nursing journey, I have found that I am deeply driven by my passion to help others to achieve healthier and longer lives. While nursing has many incredible career opportunities, I find that my true calling will be a combination of using my nursing education and clinical skills to serve individuals by empowering them to take control of their health and to create a better life for themselves. Rather than being more reactive as traditional healthcare tends to be, I would love to focus more on prevention, education, and promoting others to reach a high level of overall wellness. My goal is to help people prevent illness before it occurs, allowing them to optimize their health and live rich and fulfilling lives deep into what is currently considered “old age”.

Since my youth, I have been heavily involved in sports and fitness. My life experience in this realm has shaped my view on health in general and given me a passion to create a healthy existence for myself. High level athletics such as my collegiate and professional basketball career have given me perspective on the true meaning and importance of teamwork, discipline and persevering through adversity. Completing my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology provided me framework for the science behind the connection between the human body and physical movement. There is such an incredible outcome when a person is able to find balance in their physical activity, diet, nutrition, and recovery. These experiences have given me inspiration to promote healthy living both through medicine and lifestyle modification to prevent illness and injury as well as achieve long term wellness.

During my nursing education, I have truly enjoyed deepening my knowledge of medicine, healthcare and disease processes as well as the modern solutions we have to treat them. I do feel it is still very much necessary to maintain current medical practice when treating disease once it has already occurred. However, during clinical rotations I have found many patients struggling with diseases that are in fact preventable. These illnesses could have been mitigated or even fully prevented through the practice of better health awareness and improved lifestyle choices. The vision I have for my career is that I will not just be reacting to the health crises of my patients, but I will also be actively engaging with patient to prevent the occurrence of these crises in the first place. Through the promotion of proper diet, exercise and mental health, I hope to give a large population of people the chance to create a better life and healthier future.

My healthcare philosophy is centered around my belief that healthcare providers have a responsibility to not just treat the sick but to act as advocate and educator for patients so they can have a healthier and happier existence. As a nurse, I have a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between traditional clinical care and the empowerment of patients. Being a nurse, in my opinion, means not only acting as a caregiver but also a mentor and educator. A holistic approach in this sense can ensure that patients get more than just treatment but also the tools they need to make informed health decisions.

My personal philosophy nursing is one that is rooted in a commitment to the health and overall well-being of others. I believe there is a profound power in preventative care, health education, and personized lifestyle modifications that can create a lasting impact on the health outcomes for a greater population. I am inspired to provide the tools and necessary care to help patients reach these goals and live long, fruitful lives.
